    Welcome!

    Administration

We have achieved message board! My apologies for the banner ads--I just didn't have the oomph to set up an ASP-based board, although that may come in a few months, depending on how much people use this one.

Feel free to start topic threads. Talk about fantasy, reading, writing, or anything else that crosses your mind. Let me know what you think of the Website or the book. I'll seed the discussion whenever I can, and I'll use this Colorful Username of Omnipotence to post announcements now and then (and if it becomes necessary to do any sysopping, which I highly doubt).

Hmm, I haven't launched this site yet, so it occurs to me that right now I'm talking to myself. But I hope you'll help rectify that as soon as all the links go live. So: Welcome!

    The books exist!

Posted by Terry on 7/23/2001, 2:46 pm

I came home from vacation to find author's copies waiting for me. What an amazing experience, to hold one's own book in one's hands for the first time. I have a feeling that will be the last private moment I have with the book (does that sound weird?), because from now on it belongs to the readers, as it should. But my copy is still lying on the coffee table, and every now and then I catch sight of it while I'm doing something else and I go, Wo, check that out! After all the work and all the rushing and all the waiting, it is an awesome thing to have the finished product at last.

Wow. I just received my copy yesterday -- Amazon.com is good for some things. And then I couldn't put it down! It's your fault I'm wrecked today, but it was well worth it.

I have to mull it over awhile to say anything intelligent, other than that it was beautiful, and surprising, and wonderful, and sad. And I can't wait for the next two!

Holy cow--you *read the whole book already*? I'm speechless.

[space here to indicate moments of speechlessness]

I don't know whether I'm more flattered that you couldn't put it down, or awed at your reading speed. I opened this page while I was checking site links, not expecting to see new messages, and now I'm sitting here with my mouth hanging open. That is so cool! Thank you for the compliment!!

    Speedo indeed! [g]

    Limnery in Cursive

Posted by Terry on 7/25/2001, 1:15 pm

I was pleasantly surprised to get my copies of the October issue of *Realms of Fantasy* yesterday. I had no idea the magazine had such a long lead time! When they scheduled "Limnery in Cursive" for that issue, I thought, Oh, cool, *Illumination* will be out by then. But the October magazine beat the August book to the shelves!

"Limnery" is a prequel to *Illumination*, but the two can be read in either order, and the characters do cross over to some extent. I drafted the story while I was writing the book, and it came as a discovery to me, adding an extra dimension to the novel which I hadn't outlined in. I love when that happens.

    Hope you enjoy!

    Hi,

I tried accessing this through your main site, but the link doesn't seem to work.

    Drat.

    Hopefully yours,

Argh! It was down when I put the link up (http://www.scifinow.com/, as it appears on the front of the magazine), but I went ahead in the hope that they were just in the midst of file maintenance or something. But I see that the site's still not working...and the publisher's site, http://www.sovereignmedia.com/, is still a placeholder. I hope they get it up and running soon.

Racking brain to think where else it could be ordered online...will post here if I come up with anything...

    Many Meanings of Eiden Myr

Do you know that the word "myr" means "world" and also "peace" in Russian?

    *grin*

That is so neat, Vi! I knew that "mir" meant "world," and I remember you posting once that the title "War and Peace" was probably an inaccurate translation of what should have been "War and the World," which fascinated me. But I never made the connection to the word spelled with a "y." That's quite lovely, and amazingly appropriate.

    Conventions

Posted by Terry on 8/28/2001, 7:16 pm

Hope to see some of you at the Millennium Philcon this coming weekend, and at Coppercon the weekend after that (September 7-9). I've posted my programming schedules in The Codices section of the site. Both cons should be a blast!

    Publication--it's official

Today is the publication date of Illumination! Woo! I know it's been available for a month already, but I just had to mark the occasion anyway.
